Location & Hours: Center for Career Services: 8-10 hours weekly
Purpose of the Position:
Peer Advisors are undergraduate students at John Carroll University's Center for Career Services who advise students and provide training in career-related skills. This is a full year position in which students will work 8-10 hours a week at Career Services. Peer Advisors will complete training in the beginning of the Fall 2024 semester and will continue on as a Peer Advisor for the entirety of the 2024-2025 academic year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open to working blocks of 2 or more hours of weekday shifts, in addition to the 1 hour bi-weekly group meetings
- Conduct one-on-one student appointments that include resume and cover letter writing reviews, mock interviews, email etiquette, and LinkedIn and Handshake profile reviews
- Assist students with using Career Services’s resource materials; answer questions and give direction to resources as needed
- Assist in planning and participate in Career Services sponsored events, workshops, and career fairs outside of normally scheduled hours
- Hold drop-in hours in various locations/departments of the institution
- Co-present to classes with Career Advisors for the professional development programs
- Opportunity to interact with all constituents of campus including: students, graduate students, alumni, employers, faculty and others

- Commitment to fulfilling position time and flexibility in scheduling semester hours
- Strong interpersonal communication and listening skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking
- Experience working in teams
- Ability to manage multiple tasks
Preferred Job Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred
- Work 10 hours weekly
- Experience with peer mentoring and/or student development
